"There's no point of fashion, if you don't have style."
That is the first thing you see on my site after my name, and I chose it to be my phrase, because it resonates with me. So often I see people boasting that they own garments from one label or another and most of the time, I'd see these outfits and be completely confused as to why someone would boast about it. Usually they are plain garments with a name slapped on it and suddenly it's a must-have product.
Throughout my time at school, there was an obsession with Jack Wills and Abercrombie & Fitch, and when i say obsession I mean there were some people walking around like they were mascots. And in case that doesn't draw a clear enough picture in our head then this should do it:
I mean if you go through a Jack Wills magazine, all you'll find are items reminiscent of Primark items with Jack Wills written on it, which for some reason, means you have to pay a ridiculous amount for something that really could have and should have been sold in a budget store. Sorry not sorry to the people that love brands like these, but seriously? Do you really think that you look stylish? Fashion-conscious, yes, but stylish? Sadly, no. There is a big difference between fashion-conscious and stylish, if you don't know the difference, I'd recommend you continue reading.
There was also a Paul's Boutique craze that I never understood.
I don't know why, but I never got into these trends, I mean if there was a trend that actually was stylish, I would have probably jumped on the bandwagon, but as it was, I was happy to be riding solo.
Now bringing it back to 2017, insta-models and reality-tv 'stars' seem to be having their moment *rolls eyes*, as I've said in 'My Fashion Inspiration(s)' post, I do not find them stylish, rather they follow fashion. Now I admit, there are some outfits where I'd say, "I like this, or like that", but as a rule, I am not a fan of insta-fashion. I find that the so-called 'models' are just clones of each other. There is no originality and when they claim to 'make something trendy' they are only showing a different audience what other people, have been doing for years and yet the pioneers of these styles, are not given the respect and dues they deserve, despite them leading the world of fashion. I think that's one of my main issue with Instagram models, they have no respect for the people who began the styles they like to claim they 'made trendy'. To be clear, I do not want to be talked to about any Kardashian/Jenner/Hadid etc because I have no desire to know what item they've decided to pilfer from another community. So when Instagram models fade away, which they will, I shan't shed a tear.
The one thing I must point out, is that there is no 1 right style, if you don't like how I dress, that's fine by me. My point, is that mass fashion always distinguishes the followers and the trendsetters. It shows you who has style and who just follows fashion. I prefer to belong to the former and that's what I want to share with you. I want to show you how you can look like a million dollars, without the scary price tag.
And just to be clear, here are some definitions that I stand by:
Fashion : NOUN 1- A popular or the latest style of clothing, hair, decoration, or behaviour. (Oxford dictionary)
Fashion-conscious: ADJECTIVE- Interested in the latest fashions and in wearing fashionable clothes (Cambridge dictionary)
Style- MASS NOUN 1- Fashionable elegance and sophistication OR 2-A confident, effortless manner or technique (Oxford Living Dictionaries).
Stylish-ADJECTIVE- To have Style (Natalie E. Tull)
